Ahmad Nawash was born in Jerusalem in 1934. Forced to flee their village in 1948, his family fled to Jordan. He graduated from the Accademia di Arte in Rome (1964) and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux (1970) where he studied graphics and etching. He also spent two years at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris (1975-77). The distinctive visual language in his paintings and prints suggest narratives of despair and oppression. His work was recently the subject of a retrospective at Darat Al Funun in Amman as part of their 60 year commemoration of the Nakbah. He lives and works in Amman.
