John Hubbard was born in the USA in 1931 and was educated at Harvard University. After military service in Japan, he studied at the Art Students League in New York and with Hans Hoffman. He has lived in the UK since settling in Dorset in 1961. Inspired by landscape, his work has featured in solo exhibitions at Marlborough Fine Art and Fischer Fine Art in London, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the Yale Centre for British Art in Connecticut and the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford. In 1996, he was awarded the prestigious Jerwood Prize.
