Kamal Boullata was born in Jerusalem in 1942. He graduated from the Rome Fine Arts Academy and the Corcoran Museum Art School. An artist, writer and scholar of Islamic art, his work is in the collections of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, the British Museum, the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, the New York Public Library, the Khalid Shoman Foundation in Amman, UNESCO and the World Bank in Washington, D.C. He is the author of Faithfull Witnesses: Palestinian Children Recreate their World (1990) and Recovery of Place: A Study of Contemporary Palestinian Painting: 1847-1997 (2001). He lives and works in southern France.
