Mu Shi was born in Szechuan province in China in 1961. He is an exponent of the New Ink Painting Movement that evolved from the traditional Chinese 'literati' style which exalted values like realism and conformity to conventions. The New Ink Movement is a contemporary form, where artists employ millennia-old techniques in the service of expressionistic and conceptual art.
