Walid Siti was born in Duhok in Kurdistani Iraq in 1954. After graduating from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad in 1976, he studied for a BA and MA in printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia (1977-82). His subjects are the disruptive impact of war, exile and loss. Living in London since 1984, his work is in the collections of the British Museum; Imperial War Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum; National Gallery of Amman, Jordan; the World Bank and the Iraq Memory Foundation in Washington, D.C. His recent solo exhibition, 'Land on Fire' was at the Leighton House Museum, London, in July 2008.
